Major League Salaries Up One Percent From 2017

Mar 31, 2018 2:18 AM

The free agent market moved very slowly this offseason and Major League salaries increased just one percent from 2017.

That doesn't even amount to a cost of living bump in what turned out to be a depressed market.

The average salary for a Major League player is $4.52 million, up from $4.47 million last year.

A record 130 players will earn $10 million or more, compared to 124 such players a year ago.

Indians Unsuccessful On Extensions With Francisco Lindor, Trevor Bauer

Mar 28, 2018 8:17 AM

It doesn't appear as though the Cleveland Indians will agree to extensions with Francisco Lindor or Trevor Bauer before Opening Day.

They have tried, but no common ground have been found. Bauer and Lindor are under contract for three and four more years, respectively.

There is plenty of time for the Indians to lock the players up, but the market this offseason has been an odd one.

Lindor reportedly turned down a $100 million extension.

Nationals Re-Sign Jeremy Hellickson To New Minors Deal

Mar 26, 2018 7:33 AM

The Washington Nationals released Jeremy Hellickson from his original minor league deal and re-signed the right-hander to a new one.

The move was made to avoid having to pay a $100,000 retention bonus that Hellickson was due as an Article XX(B) free agent.

Hellickson has only been in camp with the Nationals for a little more than a week and has thrown only four innings. In addition to saving $100,000, Washington also wants to further evaluate if Hellickson fits into their plans for 2018.

Wade LeBlanc Rejoins M's After Release From Yankees

Mar 26, 2018 1:17 AM

Left-hander Wade LeBlanc has rejoined the Mariners, two days after he asked for his release from the Yankees.

The Mariners signed the 33-year-old LeBlanc on Sunday.

The move could help shore up a Mariners bullpen that lost David Phelps to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Phelps is set to undergo Tommy John surgery Monday.

Wade LeBlanc is back for a second stint in Seattle after pitching for the Mariners in 2016.
